Artist Statement

“Kōka” was inspired by a moment when I encountered a white heron

preening by the water’s edge,

its feathers briefly catching and reflecting the light.

By layering mineral pigments on silk,

I sought to express a soft, inwardly glowing light within stillness.

The work values the transparency and sense of space

that are distinctive to Nihonga painting.
